thats a beautiful shot!

Isn't the Tokina 11-16 a crop lens?

Yes it is, I'd previously used it with my XSi. At 16mm it works fine on the full-frame, below that it will vignette. It was the best lens I had for the quick trip up there, my next best options were the 50mm or 85mm f/1.8 lenses.

Very nice.
Not only you found a nice dark sky but excellent rock formation of the location to go with landscape foreground.
I guess it is as good if not better than Big Bear lake area in terms of dark sky and I must pay a visit soon, before getting too hot.

Thank you, the Alabama Hills just seemed like they would be a great spot for this. One of my next purchases will be the Yongnuo wireless triggers, I think that lighting the rocks up with a gel'd flash might provide some interesting images. This was a little further from OC than my other options but it was an area I was already familiar with from my pre-photography days. I am hoping to do Joshua Tree, Mojave National Preserve, and Anza-Borrego sometime soon. Of those three, Borrego is the only one I'm familiar with and it has virtually no cell coverage, as this was a quick over-nighter by myself that put the Hills as my best destination. Would have preferred something closer though!

Oh men every image here is so wonderfull and all i do is driving 4 hours onto a mountain, setting up a tripod and within two minutes clouds ruined the show...

The problem with lightpollution here in zurich is horrible, and with the changing weather.

The same for me, I've been out twice this week and the weather has done me both times, I only have a half hour drive on a motorbike though, can't wait for the weather to settle down, I have a samyang 14mm that needs a run out!
