How long did you stay at the state park and how did you like it ? I been to Palo Duro Canyon just north of there and it's also very nice but I wasn't there at night , just a day trip . Many thanks! I actually only stayed a single night this time, though I've been a couple of times prior. I had a one night window for clear skies and an understanding wife, so I headed out from Dallas at noon on Thursday, made the hike up, spent the night shooting, then hiked out and drove back the next morning.

Did you catch the Texas play in the canyon? It's kitschy, but you can't beat the venue. Aks Me and the wife caught the Texas play for July 4th back a couple years or so . It was great and I highly recommend it !_

Decided to setup my D7000 + Rokinon 24mm f1.4 behind me and do a "bokeh" shot with the focus on the D600 and the Milky Way out of focus.

This one was taken with my D600 and Rokinon 85mm f1.4 lens on the Skytracker mount, foreground is 4 shots (skytracker off, obviously), sky is 4 shots, all 1 minute exposures at ISO 400 and f1.4.

Thanks, believe me I was thinking about having my camping chair all night, I hiked quite a ways from my truck and didn't bring my chair with me on the way out. By the time I had gotten everything setup I was too lazy to walk back and get it, lol. ptcanon3ti wrote in post #18008658 I can't get over how prominent the MW is in this shot. I was out last night and couldn't even find the MW. This was taken from a fairly dark zone away from city lights, I see you're on the east coast which makes finding the MW extremely difficult due to light pollution. Give this website a look to see if it's possible to do something like this, from what I've found you won't get decent MW views from anything brighter than a yellow zone. Green zones are darker are about where you start to get decent MW brightness.

I like the path of stars to ward westward due to the short traced tail.
