Milky road in the Mojave.

10 tracked and stacked images for a total of 20 minutes on the sky. Quite the presence of greenish air glow.

Fuji X-T2 and Rokinon 21mm.

The stuff in this thread is awesome.

Here is my first, modest attempt. I'm pleased with it, although still plenty of room for improvement.

Any suggestions, comments very welcome.

Been out of touch for a while and trying to get caught up. Great shot! Well exposed rocks and nice sharp stars. Do you care to share a little about how the foreground was lit? Thanks

hey mate for sure! it was like 4 minute exposure on top of my head just lit by natural light no light painting f/2 ISO 1600

managed to head out last weekend when sky was clear, also discovered a new spot at the lake i frequent that gave a pretty good vantage looking east

really well done for a first attempt!

i'd guess that this was one exposure, possibly consider exposing foreground and sky separately particularly in this case lines are so clean blending in PS should be a breeze (even for PS noobs like me lol), and when it comes to MW exposure try to push the peak of histogram towards the middle at least (it will look overexposed on the back of you LCD screen but it's actually perfect since you've got most of the data there), which will make it so much easier to pull out the MW in post, you'll be looking to pull a S curve in tone curve (so high contrast, if that makes any sense haha)

This is somehow one of the most inspirational photos I've ever seen. The presence of the road and the how you can follow it all the way to the horizon line combined with the infinite area of space and how all that mass in the sky is centered almost perfectly over the road and how they merge at the end. It's like staring at a road of unlimited possibilities. Just amazing!

Thanks Tony, much appreciated.

It was 10+ images stacked using Starry Landscape Stacker. I also took a long exposure for the foreground hoping that SLS would also load and process that file for me, but as I found out, SLS only stacks photos of exactly the same settings. So the above is what I could muster from SLS although I wasn't convinced I'd processed it the best it could be.

I have PS but I'm shockingly bad at it and normally try and avoid!! Still, your message was very welcome and has given me the kick I needed. So I just spent two loooong hours working out how to layer and mask the sky and the foreground shots. Its not perfect by any means but I'm much happier with it. I will share in the next couple of days but I'm leaving my Flickr account at the moment because the image above got explored and I've got more favs than ever. Its the little things in life!!

no worries mate, i am pretty awful at photoshop myself, as matter of fact it was my first attempt at doing MW landscape that forced me to learn how to do composite in PS (thanks youtube! lol), so i know exactly how you feel hahaha

A7mkiii iso invariance test

I read a page saying that the A7mkiii uses iso invariance (along with other models) meaning you can shoot astro as very low iso's and just push the exposure in post and get the same noise as a higher shot. I think I have this right. Anyway, I gave it a shot last night.
iso 800 @ f2.8 for 15 seconds pushed exposure in post.
