Taken last Tuesday night in Panaca NV - the only night of our road trip that had clear skies.

This was taken near the Pinnacles desert in Western Australia. It's a multi row panorama taken with an EOS 6D and Sigma's 18-35mm f/1.8 Art crop lens at 35mm.

Amazing work! Here is my first try at the Milky Way. I drove to the closest dark sky area away from the city lights to give this a go.

I'd chop the bottom 1.5" off, maybe 4th = even better.

A test of the 'new-ish' Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM lens on the Canon EOS M6 Mirrorless last week. A NiSi Natural Night Filter was used with a Daylight WB. I was curious to see if the lens would be sensitive enough to pick out any detail around the Southern Cross in the Southern region of the Milky Way. What appeared to be a handful of bright stars was awash with nebulous material. Whilst the lens is quite sharp and bright, the field of view is somewhat narrow at close to 50mm on the APS-C sensor. I can take multishot panoramas with this lens to cover more of the sky - but think I need an EQ mount to allow me to track the sky with a smaller aperture for the best results.

I was set up with two cameras - shooting Comet 46P/Wirtanen in the North (which is why I was there) ...while shooting South towards the Coalsack Nebula with this camera/lens combo. Had to wait for the moon to set as it was washing out all my photographs until it left the sky. I wouldn't say that this is a great shot but I was not aware of how many stars and other objects were located in this portion of the sky. Far more than my eyes could make out. There's less light pollution up in the mountains though. And the NiSi NN Filter is supposed to cut down on yellow spectrum light from sodium and mercury-vapor street lamps. Either way, I liked seeing the sky so lit up at a time when the brighter portion of the Milky Way wasn't visible.
