Gorgeous shot! I’ll be down on the Outer Banks in July, hoping to get some Milky Way and lighthouse shots myself.

Make sure you hit the Bodie Island Lighthouse - it is perfect for Milky Way shots, and night sky shots in general.

I usually go in the fall and early spring to avoid the mosquitoes Long sleeves and pants with plenty of spray will help. I lost at least a pint of blood after only a 5 minute stop, set up and one shot to get this shot and they invaded my car after opening and closing the car door. Bodie is good for sunrise/set and of course on dark nights for the stars. You will not be alone during dark nights as other photogs will keep you company.

Enjoy the visit!

That's a beautiful shot! Almost makes me want to get up for sunrise... :-P

I shot this in late September a couple of years ago. There were probably a dozen other photographers out that night, but there is plenty of room for everyone.

This was from the same week last year. Too much Moon out, but I didn't get to pick the week - or have to pay for the accommodations, so I couldn't complain too much!

Photo from this morning, around 5:30am. Got lucky that several vehicles drove by to light the foreground. I kinda like the feel to it.
This one is my favorite from the three I got (including one with the light of a snowplow  winter is here !).

Near Twizel, Lake Wardell camp, New Zealand.

^^ great shot. One of the best I've seen. To my eyes the MW looks really clear and defined without being fake. Foreground and sunrise (?) give great added interest too. Well done.

Actually, the glow is from a nearby Lighthouse.

Vertical panorama of four images, taken just half an hour ago. There’s nothing better than camping under the stars. This is paradise!

First time I managed to get the entire arch. It was just as the moon was rising on the other side, a little tricky to do with all the cars that drove by.

June 2nd - Lake Wardell, NZ
