What a wonderful location with the old mine there!!! It really adds a lot of interest to the Milky Way!!

Thank you Charles.

Beautiful photo of the night sky.
Interesting reading. Thanks for the link.
Looks a pretty harsh place to eke a living

Thank you Richard. Yeah, Death Valley would be a bit harsh. The highest temperature reliably measured on earth was in Death Valley this summer (129.9 deg F/54.0 deg C).

Finally managed to get out and shoot some astro as we are still in a lockdown here in Auckland NZ.

Wednesday night. Had to shoot 3 shot stacks and 6 wide to pull this detail. Half moon was directly overhead, so amazed this came out so well

This is the Little A'le'Inn, Rachel, Nevada.

It took all sorts of jiggery-pokery/voodoo to get this photo and involved a lot of time/stacking/editing. The shutter speed was 6-seconds, and I took almost two thousand photos over three hours, and then picked spans of photos of multiple photos stacked until I got what I was after. I had to remove goodness knows how many stars from the side of the roof by hand.

It was taken with my Canon EOS R6 and my Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens (and, of course, my Canon Mount Adaptor EF-EOS R to fit the lens to my R6).

I am still not completely happy with it. Next summer, I will go back and next time I will point the camera a little higher, to get less foreground and more night sky.

Great place for night sky photography. Both times I was there it was a full moon. Oh well!

Next time do one shot, for a stupid long exposure, then you can darken it, and lose the magenta color cast that's common on the older Canon sensors. Or you could go in and selectively desaturate the magenta channel in this case.... Otherwise nice shots!

A bit of a cliché shot. Badwater Basin, Death Valley National Park. This is a stack of 11 photos using Sequator, each photo being 15 seconds long at f/2.8.

Not sure if this qualifies, but it was a "win" for me as there finally wasn't a bunch of people here with headlamps on

Well it took me 4 days of searching on Amazon for a light that's around 2700-3200 kelvin. You want WARM light. 99.9% of what you'll find for lights online are too blue or too high kelvin.

The other option are LED panels, so some are doing those for night setup, where you can adjust each panels kelvin temp and brightness as well as operating them remotely. I've not gone to that extent however.

Thanks! I refuse to play the "sky replacement" game on stuff like this, so I "may" be able to improve it come spring time, but there's always just too many people hanging out under the arch with lights on...
