I was able to convince my wife to actually pose for a shot....It took a lot of convincing to get her to do this...she does not like the camera ;). Anyway, I've always been bugged by her left arm just hanging there. Any ideas on what I could have done to make the pose better? This was one of my first experiences trying to do a non-candid shot:

Thanks for any tips in advance.

It doesn't bother me the way it is. The only other placement I can think of would be to have her left hand resting on the rail just in front of her right arm.

I think maybe if her arm was bent a little and her hand resting on her leg or hip it would look better. Your crop is pretty much cutting her arm off at the elbow, which you shouldn't do. You should either crop above a joint or below it. In this cause you would need to crop farther down so that you can see a little more of her arm past the elbow.

The image would be better if her left arm was bent and away from her body.
Her right arm would have shown better if she had not moved it towards her body after putting it on the railing. This changed the natural shape of it.

You also needed to reduce the light to eliminate the hot spots, especially on her forehead and right arm.

Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

First off, you have a beautiful wife - the camera obviously likes her!

Posing opportunities:
Bring her hair around the front side of her neck.

Turn her head face toward the camera, nose pointing down at your knees, pull glasses down her nose to peek over them at the camera ( a little pop of fill flash for catchlight in the eyes)

Left arm bent, hand resting on the rail,
Right arm bent in a V (in front of left hand/arm) right hand resiting up on left shoulder - remember to keep fingers together, not bent very far, but relaxed

Just my 2 cents worth.
Keep encouraging her, she will make a fine model!
