Hi chaps, I've browsed but can't find a definitive answer so hope someone can help. All I want to be able to do is browse the raw images I have on the card, select the ones I want to process and save them to a folder on the desktop then I can open that up and start pp. At the moment I open in DPP but I have to check mark the ones I want, select those checked marked images, sort them into check mark order, highlight and delete the non-checked etc etc ... I really want to just take the selected into a folder so that I'm working with files on the computer (not the card) - I must be making too much work of this ... I have tried doing the same in Bridge CS4 but that is just as complicated. the 'Finder' on the mac does it but, of course, I can't view at 100% to check for sharpness ... advice please ... regards Roger

Perhaps using a lock function or something, if the cameras still have these? I don't really know, i've never tried to do it.

There is a faster way using DPP.

1. Click on Select All

2. Click on Quick Check. I like to use full screen when I'm culling

3. Press X on the keyboard for every image you want deleted

4. When done culling go EDIT - RATING - Select Rejected Images Only

5. Then FILE - DELETE.

In Bridge go to File/Get Photos from Camera which will open up the Photo Downloader. Choose the Source and the photos come up. Each thumbnail will have a check box. Uncheck the ones you don't want, set the other options (where to save, rename, etc) and click Get Photos. Very simple to use. If you only have a few that you want to get, you can Uncheck All and then just select the ones you want to download.

The thing I like about using the Photo Downloader is I choose where to save, rename my files, and copy to another location in one stop.

Thanks so much both, the DPP looks pretty good but, of course I need to copy ALL shots off the card to the computer first (or it won't allow me to delete) ... that's why I was hoping I could do it by selecting the 'keepers' and saving them OFF the card onto the computer ... but I guess DPP doesn't work that way, and have you discovered a keyboard short-cut for 'next' when using quick check please ?

But yes Bridge looks good Dennis ... until I dug in a bit after your suggestion I hadn't spotted the 'Advanced Dialog' button where you can see the thumbnails etc ... that's probably what I wanted all along but hadn't spotted that that button was there ... thank you. Roger

It works pretty good for me. I actually have a shortcut on the desktop of the Adobe Photo Downloader so Bridge doesn't have to be running to use it. Insert the card into the reader, open the Downloader, select the images I want and where including a copy, rename, and then open Bridge. Once I know images are on both drives I can stick the card back in the camera and format it.

No you don't. I plug the card into my reader, cull and delete from there. Then I download the keepers.

I must be doing something wrong, when I read from a card and cull using Quick Check then edit\rating\select rejects the 'delete' option under 'file' is greyed out ... I'll dig in a little more to try and find out why that is ... thanks for your time ... Roger

A bit of a twist on what you are looking for but....
Why not delete the bad shots in camera...that is what I do. It is crazy fast to do it that way. Plus I can do it while still hanging out with the family. Why manage all the loser photos.

Use DPP's Quick Check to mark the images you want to move from the card to the computer. Tag them 1 or 5 or whatever. (BTW, you can use your keyboard arrow keys instead of Next/Previous.) Then in File>Create new folder, make a folder on your desktop or anywhere else. Then in Edit select only your marked keepers and Edit>Copy. Right click on the new folder in the navigation tree and select Paste. After all the keepers have been copied to
the folder and backed-up elsewhere in your computer, reformat the card in your camera.

Yet again so good of you chaps tp help me out, good advice shockey but I do like to check the sharpness on a big monitor but yes there are times when in-camera does it ... and Elie, ... are you on a pc 'cause my mac doesn't seem to work that way, for one, the arrow keys don't do to 'next' and when I try and create a folder from 'file' in DPP I get this message "Because the writing was improper the folder could not be created" - whatever that means !
