Now that the 1Dx has been announced by Canon, I'm curious to what people think about Canon's choice to lower the Mega Pixel count. The replacement to the 1Ds MKIII had long been rumoured to have 30+ MP, and I think quite a few people were surprised to see the actually MP count come out to 18MP.

I will reserve my opinion, as not to influence the initial voting.

I voted in favor if the sensor pickles. But I will never buy this camera, so my opinion is whatever.

What the he** do you want us to talk about? Canon just released a top-of-the-line game changing camera. And you want to talk about your old XTi?

I don't have a XTi. I highly doubt this camera will be "game changing". Yes,it has very, very nice features and such. Will it take VERY nice pics? Yes. Will 5 out of 10 people own it? No.
The only people that are going to own it is the true pro's.

I just want all the bs threads to stop. That's all.

30+ MP = Overkill, lots a rolling shutter in videos, and much higher price
18 MP = All 99% of people will ever need, much less rolling shutter in videos, and not nearly as high price
But obviously either way will still cost a lot as we have seen :P

Its quite simple

Camera | Canon T2i/550D | Canon AE-1 | 18-55mm f/3.6 | 50mm f/1.4 | 28-90mm f/2.8 | 100-200mm f/4 | Panasonic AF100 (Coming Soon!)

Tentatively signed.

At $6800 I'm sure my opinion isn't relevant because I'm not part of the target group. A vote from me would be meaningless, and I can't believe most of the votes come from people who are going to have a 1D X anytime soon.

Don't see the value of another round of opinions about the camera seen elsewhere. Canon says "here's what you get" and we have no 30mp camera to compare it to (from Canon) - so ultimately the market will decide. Hope Canon did their marketing research already but we'll find out eventually what people decide.

I'd like them to address the banding, I could less what the MP count is.

If it's your opinion that they're bs... don't read them. Different strokes for different folks.

Yes but then you miss out on the opportunity to say 'I told you so'

BTW next poll should try to determine why 18 is too much or not enough.

I really don't see what the problem is with 18 megapixels on the 1DX camera. It's good enough for both sports and nature and just about anything else you want to shoot. My 7D has that and i can crop freely with it. If the 1DX had more megapixels it would cost far more than it already is.

I have a saying and it goes like this.. "if you don't know how to make use of 18 megapixels, you have no need for more." :)
