Very little difference between cat 5e and 6 standards. The big one is the improved shielding of the Cat6 standard, which is especially important with tons of electronics around that introduce noise. Less noise = less retransmissions = good, in theory. For most people with a single cable running from pointA to pointB, makes little difference. Supposedly higher bandwidth capable with the cat6, but never personally did any throughput tests. When I was working for the government, they pretty much opted for cat5e over 6. Not sure if that's changed these last few years.

Not sure if that's changed these last few years. Is Cat6 worth the price difference? Sure, if you're not wiring up much. I was using up 500 foot spools pretty quickly, and the price can add up. Crimping cat6 really isn't anymore difficult than cat5e MOkoFOko wrote in post #13373970 cat 5e can handle about as much ^^Thanks for your help. Nick is busy watching CSI.
