is the 100mm Macro lens a good lens to play with? Ive been wanting a macro lens but I tried one out in the store and it wouldn't focus properly or perhaps thats the function of the lens..... from MFD i would try to focus across the room and it would stutter and never lock focus

Yes it is. It compares very favorable with its L equivalent.

The 85L II or the mark1? honestly, the 85L II isn't too slow--just not acceptable for tracking, despite what others may say. It failed my tests tracking trucks. I just can't believe they didn't weather-seal the lens, considering it's the recommended portrait lens at the high end.

The II. Always assume with me im speaking about the latest version unless i specifically say version 1 or something to the end  . I get lazy with typing II at times

It boggles my mind why that lens isnt weather sealed. It cant be a cost issue because it is already up there. What would a couple hundred more be?

Im tempted to pull the trigger on that one. Moko your thoughts?

Which one? The 5dc is priced slightly too high, unless you specifically need the extras. The 24-105L is a good price. However, I only just passed on a 24105L several days ago for $700 shipped. The 100 macro USM for $400 was a great price. I'm not impressed with the 16-35 II price--never pay extra for extras you don't specifically need. Anything over $1300 for a 16-35II I won't consider. Why pay $1400 for a 16-35L II when you can get the mark1 for $900?

it has to be the fact that it's mechanically identical to the mark1. They didn't change the optics or the focus-by-wire system, so what ain't broke, don't fix. From what I can find in literature, the only differences between the mk1 and mk2 were the changes in element coatings and the updated focusing algorithms.

Only the 5Dc. I have no interest for the other stuff being sold. And i agree it is a bit too high. If i went that route i would ask him to drop the extras (i could care less for them as it is fluff for me). Thanks for the input. Im in no hurry to buy anything and i would purchase just to try out.

I've been watching 5dc prices recently. I've seen quite a few closing below the $800 mark on ebay recently. 25,000 clicks is actually quite high, and you can already assume that most you buy will be right around there anyhow. At this point, I wouldn't pay a penny over $800-$850 for a setup like that. The aftermarket batteries are worthless, the memory cards are worthless, and the optech strap's worth $5. Watch the 5dc price fall further once the 5d3 is released next year...

Quite frequently, I get those billlmelater offerings for 7% total ebay bucks on purchases--makes buying on ebay worthwhile. Toward the end of the year, expect to see double or even triple ebay bucks back (4%-6%) for the holidays. It was close to 10% back last December.

Agreed. Ill be watching the 5dIII myself but also what Nikon will offer. They have been battered by natural disasters. :(

Bad for us in every sense. Raises prices in the short-term and also delays the entrance of new products. At this point I'm so heavily invested in Canon that I'll never switch to Nikon.

You could just get a 1ds II and be happy with it like me :D it's going to be my one body going forward, at least until the 5d2 comes down in price.

Im on the opposite end. Ive kept my lens purchases at zero and just stock piling the cash. Like i mentioned to you a while ago i just pick up what i need for events. When not shooting what i have does the job for me. So just being patient to see what comes out. In the interim i wouldn't mind picking up a 5dc. Shooting with it and flipping it back at little to no loss.

 Ive given that a thought but a 5dc is as far as ill go for now as a play around second body. The 7D will only go if i leave canon all together. :D

That's a good plan--very little loss to be seen with the 5dc in the future (unlike the 1d3 which is going to plummet harder than the other pre-2008 bodies). I've seen so many 5Dc deals pop up recently that all you need to do is throw around a few $800 offers and you're bound to get a hit. Be sure to scan FM--I've been seeing better prices over there for the 5dc.

This one is good:

The RRS L plate (assuming you're not going to get a grip) is worth about $80, and the super precision EE-S screen is $40 minimum, which is really good for the 5dc with those f/2+ lenses.

I can tell he'll accept a $900 offer at the very least --may even go down to $850-$875.
