Well, they were both hand-held at f/2.8, ISO 800, meaning a "bit" of a loss there.

But I don't know what you mean about the Wood Duck and color...it looked good to me. I have other shots that are better for showing fine detail, though, I just don't want to "hog" this thread!

That was a wooden duck? That may explain the colors and some of the lack of definition I was seeing in the feathers... In any case my 70-200 IS mk1 is long gone, and all that I will remember is that it was inferior to the mark2 :D

Hey, well, for a hand-held 100% crop it was pretty dang good, and it would print nicely as a 4x6 or 5x7!

Now that I really look at it, I think I'm slightly surprised ISO 800 is so noisy on the 1d3 :D I have unrealistic expectations :p

I am not sure if its sharp enough, I am looking at this through my laptop but this one was taken at 0.3 seconds, f/5 ISO 1600

Yeah, realize that image digital noise is a relative thing -- all cameras have it, it's just to what degree they show it.

I shot with a 30D prior to my 5D and 1D3, so I know the improvements, but there ain't nothin' perfect:)!

At 800 ISO, the 1dx had better be darn near perfect :D

Quite a bit of movement there for 0.3s. Those people down there must have really been on the move

It sounds like if the 1DX lives up to its potential, it just might knock our socks off:)!

I was testing what I could do with the lens during night time... I think that shot is pretty acceptable :)
