This afternoon the retired RAAF B707 A20-623 was airborne again for the first time since Jun 2008. The ex 33SQN tankers have been in open storage since their retirement & have been reactivated by Omega Air for tanking duties.

Anyway I grabbed these from my back deck late this afternoon. There was a lot of smoke in the air from pre summer back burning in the mountains to the west but i was very happy to catch her coming home from her test flight.

Hoping to get the other 2 when they fly!

Yeah, Omega is a private company contracted to operate and maintain tankers used state-side for training and operations. The majority of the active duty US Air Force tankers have been strewn about the world and are too busy to support state-side missions.

They are at Richmond at the moment, probably flying to Amberley on Tuesday for fuel then off to Hono then the mainland for a new life as tankers again.

Yep, but they have been able to keep there RAAF numbers within the N rego, which is great. it'll make it easy to keep track of them.
