My basic workflow in LR3 is to do some of the basics in LR (cropping, noise reduction, etc.) then save as a TIFF and if needed open it in CS5 for any final work.
In CS5 I tend to then rename to something more descriptive.
This renamed file is now not in my LR catalog and I have to do an import to
get it correctly in the catalog.
There has got to be a better way, I would appreciate anyone's idea on improving my work flow on this.

thanks in advance

Garry

Don't "Save as" in PS. Use "Save".

You can tell LR how to name the tiff:

I myself name my files during my LR import, then if I need to edit in Photoshop I use the LR Edit in Photoshop function, which creates a tiff that is automatically part of the LR catalog -- in Photoshop all you have to do is Save your "project file". Then, in Photoshop, I would save the final output as a jpeg, flattened and resized and such. The output file does not have to be a part of my LR catalog.

I think it's been said... rename it in LR before it ever leaves. If we're talking about many files/names in one catalog, it's probably time you take advantage of the keywording. ;)

Try this-

1) Keep all of a clients photos together in a single folder with their name
2) Individual shoots are in their own folder with a date such as "Natalie 10-18-11"
3) Copy all the images to the folder without renaming them
4) Import the entire folder into Lightroom, it will keep the name of the event
5) Select the photos for proofs by marking them with a 1. Select all the 1s and create a new collection called "Natalie 101811 Proofs"
6) Export the proofs into a subdirectory called "Proofs" and rename the files "Natalie Proof 101811-xxxx" xxxx is the orignal file number.
7) The client or photographer select a few images for further editing. Go back to the Collection and mark the new final images with a 5.
8) Select all the 5 images and create a new collection called Natalie Final 101811, Export those images at high resolution to a subdirectory called Final with a new filename "Natalie Final 101811-xxxx"

You can now easily find the or retrieve a clients images, see which images you previously selected, and re-export images without any changes to the original images. Even if LR is obliterated, your images are organized.

Thanks for the responses. This gives me a couple of options to try.
