I Started off with some cheap lights, and as business grew bought better lights. the color temperature is different between the the lights. even if you are using a custom white balance is it a bad Idea to use different light with different color temperatures. I'm trying to decided if I just need to get rid of the cheap lights or to us them for lighting things like the backdrop.

the light is seen by all but not understood by all

How much of a difference is it? I guess it's only a problem if you notice it and it bugs you.

custom white balance wont fix it as you can only have one white balance and two colors. You could gel the cheap lights to warm or cool them to match the others if its that much different.

I'd have to echo dave_p. Unless it's really bad enough to bug you, or you're doing really critical work. If you only know the issue exists because you're specifically tested for it, don't worry about it unless it shows up in real pictures.

In practically all inexpensive and/or older lights, color temperature drops as you reduce power, especially below 1/4 power. Make sure that's not the problem you're seeing, and if so, just be careful. Yes, you can gel and you can use them for other purposes such as background lights.
