Valley Center wins Substate and takes its 37-2 record to the Kansas state volleyball championships next weekend.

1. Ashlyn is the star. A two time selection as first team all-state and destined for a D1 college career, she is the best I've seen.

2. 6'1" She has serious ups.

3. So does my 5'7" daughter.

You sharpen those?

By the way, volleyball shorts on pre-college girls make me cringe.

First shot is really great...hopefully you showed her this one. Very intense look in her eyes.

Cringe? No. Uncomfortable...yeah. And as another side note, middle school girls are not switching to these pants as well. So if this made you cringe, wait until you see 12 and 13 year old girls wearing them. :-( I must be getting too old to shoot middle school VB.

I have a 13 year old daughter who has to wear these shorts. She has a "rounder" booty than most of the other girls. We really struggled to find Spanx that her butt cheeks didn't fall out of when she jumps.

Oh, 13 - 5"10' - Middle Hitter/Blocker

BTW, Our gym is really dark. I'd love to know what lens, camera and settings you use to get such clear shots. I have a 60D with a 70-200 f4 and a 50mm f1.8. I struggle with blur on the bigger one and not close enough shots on the smaller. I have other lenses, but they are old and these are my best two.

I usually shoot at iso 1600 or greater and shutter set around 200 if possible.

Her 8th grade team is playing for district tonight. They are currently undefeated and if they win tonight with be district champs. If they lose it will be a tri-district championship.

Thanks in advance. Rebecca

Here is his EXIF:
Camera Make Canon
Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Exposure Time 0.001 second
Lens F-Number / F-Stop {0x829D} 14/5 ===> ƒ/2.8
ISO Speed Ratings {0x8827} 3200

You'll need shutters speeds of 1/600 or above to stop the blur.

I like number 7. The setter in foreground makes the picture. Guessing it was third hit though.

This is a very old, dark colored gym that replaced its old light bulbs with the new fluorescent high efficiency, high output bulbs that really help light the place up. They have thin but very bright tubes with reasonable color spectra. Big improvement.

Our new high school at Valley Center uses the same bulbs.

My personal favorite is number 8, simply because she has some CLEAN hands.

Where were you positioned for #7? Is that a heavy crop?

On #7, I was sitting on the first step (feet on the court floor). I was beyond the bench, just past the back line of the court. Imagine sitting on the first step in the background of the pic in post #4 (except on the other side of the court).

It was shot at 200mm and here it is SOOC; 1/1000 sec, f/2.8, ISO 3200, EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM
