When I installed PS, countless .icc profiles were automatically installed inside

Windows>System32>Spool>Drivers>Color

This is all well and good, but I don't know what half of them are for and I'd like to clean up the drop down list in PS a little so I can add my own .icc profiles without having to go fishing to find them in the long list. I'm affraid of deleting what's already there, so how do I reorganize the list to that my own profiles appear on top?

Also, I notice there are some .icc profiles that appear in the PS printer profile drop down list that do not appear inside the Windows spool folder, such as

Dot gain 10%
Euroscale coated v2

Where are these coming from.

I don't know all the details myself -- maybe someone here does!

Most of them are useless today as not many of us are actually doing traditional press-related work. On top of that, there are so many for all over the world that have just grown like a cancer in PS. In a nutshell, if you're not shooting for, or working for, a publication that uses any of these profiles, then they are just dust bunnies IMO. While there's no reason to delete them, I can understand why you want to. I have several labs and in-house printers, so my list is crazy long for all those destinations and mediums.

The answer to your question is that you can delete many of them as they are useless to you. However, take great care in what you delete. I'd stick to only the press-related stuff. (if you're not shooting for traditional press products or printing, of course)

Maybe instead of just deleting them, move "suspect" ones into a separate directory. If over time all is well, deleting could be a good move...
