Went out yesterday to shoot some background images for use as textures (grass, weathered boards, asphalt, clouds, bricks, etc.). I had my daughter with me, who always loves to be photographed. So of course I practiced my background ideas on images of her...

I didn't have anyone with me, and no lights, so I shot ambient and upped the fill in LR. Not technically the best portraits. I'm looking for opinions/suggestions regarding the background specifically, not so much on the main photograph of her.

Thanks!

Nice Picture but I feel the Angle of the opening of the Fence is slighty wrong ... I feel You should
have moved more to Your Left ... Just My Humble opinion ... You could mask it out somewhat

Hi. The slope of the road distracts, better straightened. However, I think the whole background doesn't really work. The tarmac path dominates, the wooden fencing doesn't add anything. Light-wise the background looks OK, but you'll notice that its the brightest part of the image and draws your attention from the subject (your daughter). Just my 2p worth.

The more 'interesting' the background, the less 'interesting' the subject. This background really draws your eye and invites attention, something you probably wouldn't want.

What's not to get? Artificial grain looks awful.

EDIT: My mistake - didn't read what I wrote.

'discuss' threw your meaning off.

#1 looks best.
