thanks! obviously the orangeness of 4 and 6 is something i would like to avoid, but with the strong coloured back lighting i really wasn't able to do much better with the white balance.

lightroom 3.5. i guess i could try desaturating the oranges some, eh?

Yep. Either HSL (TAT tool works well for this: The symbol that looks like a circle with a dot in it. Click it, then click and drag down in the image on the color you want to reduce. Shortcuts: Shift-Cmd-Opt-H(ue)/S(at)/L(uminance​)/N(othing) Cmd-3 to close the panel.) or try playing a bit with the profile / sliders in the "Camera Calibration" tab.

thanks for the tip about the TAT tool, that worked wonders! and saved a bunch of time trying to find the right balance between say the red and orange sliders.
