A few images from a recent hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. Our destination was Emerald Lake, but we stopped at Dream Lake for sunrise. We expected the snow, but the harsh winds were not predicted and we nearly had to turn back several times.

Love the way #2 shows the nasty wind you had. I think I would have turned back. Looks cold!

Thanks very much for the comments everyone! Very much appreciated.

ptsdds, we almost turned back a couple times, but there were small areas which were sheltered from the wind on the way. Once out of the wind, it really wasn't that bad.

Hey Jon,
Were these taken during the first storm a couple weeks back? Amazed we were both up there, yet so far away (I hiked up to The Loch that Saturday, enjoying 5-1/2 hours of fun in the snow)!

Great compositions!

Thanks Quattrorocket. All were shot with a 1DsII with a 16 - 35 lens. The last one is a 5 shot pano.

Just a walk in the park on a sunny day. Hahaha. The last one is a real winner and couldn't have been better.

Hey Koala, these were shot on Wed. 10/12. It was mostly really windy which was picking up the snow that had already fallen. There were a few flurries off and on but really not a storm. I had friends who hiked The Lock the same day and they said it was just as challenging.

Every hike we do up there we often see photog's on the trail and I wonder if I know them from here or flickr. Usually we are on our way down since we go up so early. This day, there was another guy who came up right at sunrise (3rd shot), but other than a grunted greeting, he didn't seem to want to talk. Just as well, my face was frozen.

ah ha. I was up there on 10/8 during the snow...

I've experienced a few of the grunters; amazes me. Such an incredible time and they seem to not be in the right frame of mind.

I generally say "hi" to everyone as we pass; can't miss my goofy mug (external link). :)

I find the first two a bit distracting - as though there is rain on your lens front. I would ditch them if I was you. The rest are great!

Cheers, Helen
