Hi guys. Hoping to get your input on whether this is would be a worthwhile upgrade for me. I need a larger screen than my 15-inch Sony VAIO VGN-NW270F provides but accurate color reproduction is important as well. LED monitors haven't been on the scene long enough for me to have heard much about them. Are they considered good for PP work as well as general usage? Does this model allow for at least some calibration? I am just a hobbyist but I only shoot RAW and color-correction is important to me.

The model in question is here: http://www.amazon.com …B9A2DU/ref=dp_ob_title_ce (external link)

Its previous model used to be: http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1319552145&sr=1-5 (external link) and that one gets high praise on Amazon but I don't see many reviews from photography-oriented buyers.

Thanks for your help.

Mani

That Viewsonic appears (external link) to be a 6-bits + Hi FRC TN panel.
Avoid.

Go for an IPS screen or at least a PVA

Thanks for the help René! I will continue to look into this. How did you derive that info (6-bits+Hi FRC) from the monitor's specs?

It says so in the link ;) (Click the word "appears")

5ms is quite short to be a (P)VA or IPS screen. (not quite impossible) but the 160 degrees viewing angle makes it a TN.

If it were an e_IPS or so, that would be stated in bold letters in a larger font ;)

Yep, I had noticed that in your post; just couldn't figure out looking at the specs how you came to that conclusion. Thanks again for the help! I have a lot of reading to do. I hope to make up my mind in the next week or so.
