Im thinking of getting either the 135mm f2 or sell my sigma 30mm f1.4 and get the 50mm f1.2 or 35mm f1.4.

Other lenses I own for my 7D
70-200mm f4 (nonIS)
60mm 2.8
17-50mm 2.8 (tamaron)
30mm 1.4 (sigma)

I am mainly interested in doing portraits. I understand 135 will be too long on a crop body but I really like the bokeh it produces :).

You may look at my 500px (external link)profile to get an idea of kind of pictures I take. Im currently pretty much all over the place but would now like to concentrate on portraits.

Thanks,
Kevin

I had the 135 f2 on my 40D crop & 5DMKII and glad i'm rid of it.
Instead I bought the 70-200 f2.8L MKI non IS for the versatility but also for the sharp images it produces and nice bokeh thanks to the zoomfactor.

The 135 was way too long on crop and even on FF it was not comfortable to take so much distance.

I have the 35 f1.4L & 85 1.2L as my best portrait lenses.
But selling a Sigma 30 1.4 I don't know either cause I know it's a very good price/quality lens on crop.

The 50 1.2L would maybe be the best as its about 85mm with your cropfactor, the ideal portrait-length and you don't have to take too much distance like 135 f2L.

The 50L is about as 'magic' as you can get.

I'd even buy a cheap film camera if you get it if I were you.

Gah- I want the 50L.

If you have the budget for the 50 1.2 then by all means, but if you don't there are some others to consider...

Take a look at the Sigma 1.4, a perfect portrait lens on a crop, and magnificent bokeh. If you want to go a little longer, add the EF 85 1.8. Both are fantastic lenses, and you can pick up both for less that half of what you are going to spend on the 50 1.2

5D3, 50D, Sig 35/1.4A, EF 35/2 IS, EF 40/2.8, EF 50/1.4, Sig 50/1.4, EF 85/1.8, EF 24-105/4L IS, EF 70-200/2.8L

The 70-200mm f/4L IS lens by virtue of its rounded aperture blades produces very nice bokeh and is quite a nice portrait lens as well as a general purpose hand-holdable telephoto zoom...

IMO, it is an all-around nicer lens than the 70-200mm f/4L non-IS...

50L, there's something unreal about the lens, get it and don't look back.

I'll probably get flamed suggesting this, but i'd say go ff....

Since you are into portrait, upgrading to ff makes sense.

But i see 3 out of 4 lenses you currently own are ef-s mount. Maybe sell those and your camera and go 5d2 + sigma 50/50L + 85mm? That alone will take your portrait to a whole new level imo.

I was checking some 5d mk2 vs 7d ISO comparisons on a website and seems like 7d iso 800 is equivalent to 5d iso 1600 and so on. So apart from good ISO capability and absence of crop factor are there any other advantages of 5d over 7d? I would honestly like an answer to this as its been bugging me for a while.

Can I ask why you might be thinking of selling the Sigma 30mm 1.4? I was just looking at that one on amazon this morning as a compliment to my 50mm f1.4.

From your "500", the 135L would be a nice lens for your work, if people say 135 is too long just image what they say to guys who like the 200L as a portrait lens :p

30mm is a great lens. The only reason I would give it up, is cause I would need the money to pay for the 50L :D
