Do you guys feel that it is absolutely important to keep all the pictures, good and bad, even though they're just merely .. pictures.

I currently keep everything, although I only have like 5,000 photos. Figured in a few years I'd like to look back and laugh at me when I started with the cmaera :p

As for backup, I have 2 Terrabytes in my iMac. Also have an Apple Time Capsule backing that up. Then a couple of 2 TB FIrewire 800 HDs, one which is normally in the fireproof safe in the office, the other at work.

Also upload all my photo's to my Smugmug account, and the FTP server on my website as we have ridiculous amounts of storage on it (amazing what $3k a month in servers gets you!).

Figure that if my house gets burned down, my office gets flooded, Smugmug server gets stolen and my website server goes down as well....Skynet is screwing us over and I need to find John Connor and not worry about photos!

I guess I am paranoid when it comes to stuff like protections, so I'm heavily putting my thought into this, is it worth it, what'll happen, pros and cons, worst-case scenario, etc.

arrrrrr!

P.S. : nickzantop, I can probably see why you would need all that memory since your portfolio is HOT! OMG!.
btw, that indian girl, isn't she that girl from america next top model? she looks she lost a lot of weight.

Thanks! Yeah, that's Anchal from Top Model. She's an awesome girl.

Is it absolutely important to keep everything? Probably not...almost definitely not. Do I keep everything though? Yep, I'm a hoarder. I don't always have a good reason for keeping everything, but enough old photos have come in handy that I've decided that I may as well just keep everything. Of course, photos where I forgot to take the lenscap off get deleted. ;)

drives are cheap.

pickup a couple OEM drives off newegg and 1 or 2 enclosures you can swap them in and out of as they fill up.

I've just been in the habit of using Western Digitals -- widely available and inexpensive. I have a nearby Best Buy that I can just walk into and pick one up if I need to quickly replace a drive.

Eye Fi card + concealed laptop grabbing photo. Then when someone question me and state photographing is illegal, I offer to erase the memory card and show them.

Then I get to laugh all the way home with backed up pictures that aren't erased.

Seriously, this is getting out of hand. Those police needs to learn to tell apart general photography from terrorist taking potential targets. I could understand the refineries raising suspicion but hotel or other very public area? I bet there are hundred people who took pictures that got away without detection.
