Obviously the Sony has much higher resolution, so it would probably look better if downsized to 10MP. But come on...we're talking about 2 point and shoots vs. Sony's latest and greatest.

So you'll trade me your 7D for a G12? Both just cropped sensors....

Anyway, Sony was really kicking booty with their 16MP sensor. Don't know why they had to go to 24MP and ruin their momentum. I am betting Pentax and Nikon won't be buying that one for their next gen models.

Just read a test on the new Sony A77 in Pop Photography. They say it will revolutionize the DSLR business and that Nikon and Canon (D300s, 7D) need to go back to the drawing board.

Up to 12 fps in burst....wow!!

I used the A77 at the PDN Expo here in NYC and it is a very impressive piece. Here it is with its kit lens: Zeiss 16-50 f/2.8

The camera impressed me in use.

The 12fps is only when shot wide open, otherwise it is 8fps (still very good) however it's got a smaller buffer than the 7D.

Cool camera but not perfect, and it sucks at high ISO so that would turn me off it. But for only $1400 it is a competitor!

My bro in law has used one - he works for Sony. He tells me its a nice piece of kit. Now all they need to do is start building a lens selection and I maybe tempted. I posted on here over a year ago about how Sony will take what others have and improve them. They seem to be shaking up the big two with good products and ideas.

IMO, Sony has a great lens selection of very nice glass for crop cameras. Remember they will ALL be IS lenses because sony has a stabilized sensor.

i.e.:

30mm f2.8 Macro
35mm f1.8
50mm f1.8
85mm f2.8

CZ 16-50mm f2.8
CZ 16-80 f3.5-4.5
16-105 f3.5-5.6

70-400 G
70-300 G

Plus all the standard kit zooms like 18-250, 18-55, 55-200, 70-300, etc

I didn't even mention the higher end Zeiss zooms and primes.

I personally do not get the comparison?
These are all very different cameras. The A77 is not going to fit in your pocket and it has interchangeable lenses. PLUS the price points aren't even close.

Maybe comparing it to a 7D or 60D would make sense to me.

I think the OP was saying the a77 had noise as bad as the g12. So it's only comparing noise.

It kinda make sense .. Still odd comparing a APS C sensor to a smaller sensor.
Guess because I do not have a G12 *L*

I was just going to mention that. You could almost by 3 G12's or 4 s95's for the price of an A77. Also look at the memory the Sony takes up. Maybe memory not a big deal for some people but it seems like David is being compared to Goliath.
