Cropping out the soldier on the left in 1 could make the image timeless, less so with the colour one.

This is actually already a crop, lots of mess on the left. This is only about 6.4MP at full res.

But, I'm getting better at photoshop and CS5 is pretty slick with the cloning and content aware:

Ahh, must be because I used the 'replace photo' option on flickr

I think color's the way to go with this one. Nice shot

The colour is much better, the b&w tones don't have enough pop.

It actually was very white and chalky in real life, skin diseases are very common over there.

ah okay sorry, I didn't mean for it to come across that way. What I meant was, have you corrected the colour on his left hand

looks like somehow that hand didn't take the processing as well....damn

I didn't save a TIFF with just the clone out of the soldiers arm but not the enhancements.......Loo​ks like I'm gonna be practicing painful cloning again.

Tried to paste in a less-processed hand. He must have moved it a bit because it just isn't as sharp as the rest of him, and having it in the shadow killed the contrast.
