so i bought a 2x set of BP-511A 1390mah 7.4V batteries off of ebay from a guy in HK for like $30ish bucks. his pictures showed 2 batteries that looked exactly the same as the one on the left (my original BP-511 not A, had another one but my friend lost it when his backpack was stolen ). i was sent two of the batteries from the right.

i complained to the guy stating that this was a fake (the kerning of the letters and tracking, non canon logo font, etc) and he said that these were HK OEM Canon batteries. is there such thing? would canon go out of their way to make a battery with misaligned words and wat nots for the chinese market?

bottom one was the HK one. on the bottom warning label, exclusive is spelled "exckusive." also noticed that the HK ones dont have an engrained serial number in the middle indent in the plastic. my original says "S1P7" also HK one doesnt have the PCT logo but does have the RU, CE and check mark logos on the top label

the package it came in. canon hologram sticker and all. made in japan

so what do you guys think? fake? not fake? they havent exploded yet or gotten really hot, charges up fine and functions like my original one

ignore the packaging. they're definitely not genuine canon products. having said that don't discount the performance just because they're not Canon OEM.

7D and lenses.

true im not discounting the performance since they seem fine to me. those are some good copies if they are copies indeed, arent most 3rd party batteries really generic looking? maybe whatever canon uses to for those decals got messed up =P

do the BP-512A batteries just look different from the regular BP-511?

be very careful. there are a lot of counterfeits out there that don't have the same safety mechanisms as the us models and can rupture or heat up considerably. I only buy third party form Sterlingtek: http://sterlingtek.com/ln03-canon-bp-511-dlc511.html (external link)

And, a quick read on those fake li-ion batts:

no overheating experienced yet, battery stays cool. man.....came in the exact same blister pack as does the "real" one too and came with a battery contact cover too with the embossed warnings and cautions on it. it looks 100% real except for the canon wording on the front side

i wonder what an explosion is like anyway. will it blow the camera to pieces? will it just catch fire?

here was the exact auction picture

maybe i should just try selling it back? only charged it once

ya know, sometimes when i make a purchase i also add the extra cost (time and money) of returning things in case something goes wrong.

sorry to hear about your dilemma.

i dunno about you, but putting something bakc on the market that could potentially be dangerous to someone else is not exactly what I would call a good idea. don't take this personally, but I think that if you cannot get a refund, then either use them, or absorb the cost, and toss them. that would be the responsible thing to do in my opinion. you never know if some child, or elderly person, or anyone for that matter might experience a malfunction with those things.

IF they are phonies, and they damage your camera, it will cost ALOT more than new genuine CANON batteries from somewhere like B&H.

You really do get what you pay for. Knock-off copies are big business in HK.

It's not a chance I would take.
