Looking at the pics from the actual auction and what you received there is no question you didnt get what was being sold. I'd send the batteries back and if the seller doesnt want to return your money, report the purchase as a fraud to you CC company and more times then not you will get you money back. I have had to do that once before and I got my money back from the CC company but before you can file a complaint you have to return the merchandise and have proof (like a UPS tracking number).

I've been here for a year and see how easily real 'fakes' are available here. At the same time, some of the genuine stuff is also a lot cheaper thanks to being next to the factories here.

Whether you want to use it is upto you, but is fairly obvious the batteries arent real Canon.

Heres my 511 battery; with the silver embossing on top opposed to the 511H's 'branding'

The color is also different with the 511H being gray compared to the 511's brown.
Hope it helps.

Looks like an arrow designating which end to put into camera first :rolleyes: just a guess - too lazy to get up & check mine :lol::lol:.
Why not use the battery? I think that most batteries are made in one of very few factories. When I first got my 300d I bought some of these "cheapie" batteries for about $5 each. Had some of the same misgivings that you did but I've never had a problem. I've checked them for how warm they get in the chargers and they are actually not as warm as the Canon battery. I've seen the SterlingTec batteries and they look just like my cheapies! About 9 or 10 months ago there was a thread (a bunch of them) about this same thing - just to let you know.
In the end it's up to you as to use them or not. If you have any doubts I'd say not to use them. Good luck. :)

yea these batteries stay cool all the time even when charging and shooting. i shot about 200+ pictures in less than 10min with many 3image bursts with these two "fake" batteries in my grip and there was absolutely no problem. but i dont know

ill see if the ebay guy responds to me first and take it from there.

I use Stirlingteks in both my 300D and my 20D. They are actually outperfoming the original Canon battery from the 300D but are not as good as the BP-511A that came with the 20D. But the price is amazing for sure.

Just about to place an order with SterlingTek for a double-pack of 1800 mAh's and AC/DC adaptors. Anything else these guys are selling that's a nice to have?

Thanks.

eh, i thought the ones from HK would at least be unbranded plain ones. who would have known they go so far as to emboss everything and get stickers and packaging right =P
