Fixing to get a 5D II. I have the 28-70 tamron lens and the 50 1.8, both works on the 5D II. What lens would you recommend to round this out and cover my bases that is under $500.00?

Haven't you heard to invest in lens over the body? Why would you be spending $2400 on a body when you limit your budget of the lens? For a budget of $500, I would be hard pressed to get anything.

If I were to purchase a lens on a budget for a 5D II, I would get the 24-105mm as a kit. It is $800 in addition to the body when purchased as a kit or else it's about $1100 by itself.

You'll probably want to replace the 50mm 1.8 and the tameron in the future. But be prepared to spend some $$$.

maybe he wants it for the video as well? also those lenses he has are still plenty good. equipment - all of it - does not make a good photo. perhaps try t gather another $100-$200 and get a 70-200mm f4 L, this is what I would do in you position.

EDIT: even if this means waiting another month or so. it's worth it. for some of us $500 is still alot of money, and depending on where your priorities are, this may dictate your purchase.

also he never said how much he was paying for the 5D or for that matter acquiring it all together. So more power to you for getting a new camera. and I certainly can think of a few things I could buy with 500$.

I often borrow lenses from friends to help when I feel my financial shortcomings.

Nikon D700, 28-70 f2.8 Nikkor, 17-35mm Nikkor, 50mm 1.8 Nikkor, 28mm f2.8 Nikkor, Panasonic G3, Panasonic 14-45mm Lumix, Panasonic LX3, Canonet, 4 speedlites, some remotes some umbrellas, some stands, some cables and a few bags.

The key question is what do you shoot?

Two lens that I love and wont break the bank and are just wonderful in your 5D is the 70-200 f4L (used around 540$) and the EF 85 1.8.
Another cool lens is the 100 Macro f2.8 USM, good for low light, portraits and off course macro
Do you shoot wide? the 17-40 f4 is a little more than 500$ but a very nice wide angle lens on you 5D

But you have to give a little more info on your photographic interest

What do you shoot?

And I agree with the person who said spend money on the glass as opposed to the camera.

Why not get a 5D classic for a lot cheaper and a more expensive lens?

sorry but, I disagree with the 5D classic, Do get the 5D2
Is easier to save 800 to 1000$ to get a lens than to save 2300$ to go to the 5D2

He shoots with a Tamron like yours, a 70-200 f4 and a couple of primes , the key is lighting

So I say go ahead and get you 5D2 and save for better glass later as you grow a business, your Tamron 28-75 f2.8 is a very decent lens, The 5D2 will last longer, it will give you better high ISO, Live view, better ergonomics, nicer viewfinder, more resolution, video, you get the picture.. yes the 5Dc is a great camera, but the 5D2 is just much better in every way
Just my 2 cents, take my advice with a grain of salt

Exactly, get a 5Dc and some lens, dump rest of the money into lighting.

Honestly i rather have a fast lens instead of pushing up ISO.
5D II is going to last for another year MAX, and its resale value will sink once 5D MK iii comes out in 2012. Retail price will drop as producers try to clear their stock and used market price will fall as well. I am guessing it will fall to 1.5k used, depends on how much is the 5D iii when it's out. However 5Dc is pretty stable, its price point wont go any lower than 900 fo used.

Get 5D ii only if you find you cant live without video.
Otherwise wait a bit, its price will drop for sure. Meanwhile paly with other capable but cheap bodies and invest in lighting and lens. Those are the real treasures of photographers

Perhaps the wisest business $$$ decesion would be to look for a deal on the 5DII and 24 105 as kit.

Then you can sell the 28 70 Tamaron and get another L lens to go with your new 5DII

Opps I see you enjoy your 2.8 28 70 Tammy, So my revision would be if you cant find a good deal on 5DII, by all means seek out a nice low click 5C
and put the rest of the capital into glass you desire

Good luck...

Get the 85/1.8 and the 5DII. Keep the lenses you already have. You should be well covered for what you shoot. Add some lighting.

Oh, do you mean the 28-75 Tamron ?

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
