At first glance, and a few after that I am convinced the Storm-Trooper is a toy sitting on a mini-stool reading a mini-book. Not sure if that was the intent, but it is throwing me off in terms of the photo's believability that a Storm-Trooper is reading a book.

It doesn't look like a toy to me. It looks like someone in a Stormtrooper costume reading a book. Funny.

Now what would give you that idea..

Looks soft...might just be my screen though. I'm still up in the air about the crop JUST below the knee though.

I can't really say. Maybe the perspective, or angle of the photo. The focal length used? Perhaps because there is nothing else in the photo to compare size. I am not sure what is tricking my mind here.

Well the fact that you have to guess is it real or not tells me that at least i did something right.. Real person and not a toy! I have a few concepts i am working on with a storm trooper, this was a trial run to see how it would look.
As far as soft, must be the resolution here as the actuall photo and a print are sharp, clear, crisp (insert your adj here) and really clean.

Wow you tricked me too, I also though it looked somewhat like a toy. And yes, it did look a little soft to me as well (both photos).

Was there any special layering or effects you PP'd the photos with to make it look more toy like? or perhaps it's just the subject material?

It looked like a real person and book to me. Nicely done fooling others that it was a toy!

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.

No layers or effects in PP. I had a lucy find to meet this trooper, he is a cool guy with an amazing background and I hope that he will work with me more as I have a few other sessions in mind for him. Fun times and thanks for the positive comments.
Joe

I thought it was a toy. But as I was looking at the picture I was wondering how a toy had so much detail. Liek the way the joints are bent and the knee cap flap and what got me was the wrinkles in the boot at the ankle. I was wondering why there was so much detail :p and the pose was perfect. Great job!

Never seen a trooper with a white pauldron. Granted, I'm not as into costuming as some of my fellow geeks. Is he a 501st member?

At first glance the shot does make him look like a toy, but the detailing around the joints (his left ankle area in particular) gave it away to me.

But I'm a special case, I'm a member of a movie replica forum with a large costuming contingent and I've seen a fair number of troopers.

I like it. It would be great if you could see the title of the book and it was something like "Conquering The Galaxy for Dummies"

My sidearm six is The Canon 40D, and I keep an SX20IS in my boot.

I think your picture's great....made me really chuckle!

On a slightly different note (yet not), a newspaper here ran a story, I think it was Monday, about how a photographer has done a series of images showing how he (she?) thinks a stormtrooper's home life might be. They used an actual Star Wars figurine for the grown-up trooper and a lego trooper figure or the child trooper. They were pretty funny too.
Hope a link is ok....if not mods please remove: http://www.dailymail.co.uk …ing-scenes-young-son.html (external link)
