Just got a 5G - what lens would you suggest?

Hi,

I was lucky enough to pick up a nice 5D classic and (although not fully tested) I think all my lenses (in my sig) should work except the Sigma 15-50mm.

Now I know the 24-70mm are relatively the same, but what lenses would you suggest bearing in mind I can still use the 17-50 on my crop?

As I imagine it would be for indoor use as well as landscape I would probably be looking at no larger than 2.8's or so as I don't want to break the bank either.

Cheers

I'm guessing thats the Canon as the 17-40 in your sig is an L :)

Thanks though, I'll check the archives and see what sort of image they produce.

By the way as you may have guessed I have no fear of third parties, so anyone feel free to offer those up too (as long as they have AF - my eyesight doesn't see good enough to get MF sharp!) as long as they are good ones.

On a budget, or even if not, the Tamron 28-75. The FOV would be equivalent to your 17-50 on a crop and you can use it on both cameras.

I love 5Dc with 50mm, it feels so Classic with focal length and the output is awesome!

Amazingly I've not yet mounted the 50mm.

I wonder if there are any other primes out there that work well - I've tried the 85mm and that pretty good and will no doubt give the 100mm a shot soon too, but at the low wend what do people use?

17-40

Some of the images from that lens look great and at £585 not the worst priced lens I've ever seen either, just noticed its an f4, still looks good though, I'll just have to think harder.

Although you do not want to break the bank, for indoor use, without a flash, you will need some cash. Fast, wide and good does not come cheap.

The 24LII is my favorite lens.

The 17-40 would be a good choice, although f4.

Indoors, using ambient light is highly overrated, imo. Usually, indoor lighting sucks, bigtime. Get a flash.

Aye, just got the indoors covered with a Tamron 28-70, which is the length I'm used to pretty much being a 17-50 if on a crop.

I do have a flash, two actually and I really do have to figure out how to use them properly and I'm set.

Perhaps one day when I'm not skint I'll get the 17-40 as it does look good, its just too rich for me just now.

Cheers though.

hehe, I wish I could, I just had to cash in some shares for the lens/5D otherwise I was going red - time to reign in the spending I think!

When I read the thread title... I thought you just got $5 Grand to spend on a lens.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

lol, I just noticed I'd done a typo when I got the notification email!

Shame changing it in advanced only does the top item, not how its displayed on the thread

It would seem my typo is catching, it was meant to read 5D
