So I'm going through my e-mail and there is some "changes to your paypal account" thing in my inbox...i open it up, and here's the contents:

Starting 10/23/2011, money from payments you receive will be placed in a pending balance for up to 21 days. By doing this, we're making sure that there's enough money in your account to cover potential refunds or claims.

Even though you can't access the money right away, please ship orders quickly and communicate with your customers. After 21 days, you can withdraw money from each payment as long as the customer hasn't filed a dispute, chargeback, claim, return, or reversal.

The money may be available sooner if:
We can confirm that the item was delivered.
Your buyer leaves positive feedback. (Applies only to eBay items)
This change isn't necessarily permanent. We'll review your account every 35 days and re-evaluate if we should continue to hold your payments. If we decide to stop holding payments, we'll email you to let you know.

Why are my payments being held?
We reviewed your account and determined that there's a relatively higher than average risk of future transaction issues (such as claims, or chargebacks, or payment reversals). We understand that it may be inconvenient to have your payments temporarily held but please know that we didn't make this decision lightly.

Before deciding to hold payments, we consider many factors. These factors include account and transaction activity, the rate of customer disputes, the type of business a seller runs, average delivery timeframes, customer satisfaction, performance and history.

I had to laugh because: I haven't ebayed anything in ages. Haven't used paypal for any sales in a long, long, time. Never ever had any buyer complaints, chargebacks, whatever (ebay feedback is 100% positive, too, lol)...lol....The only thing I've used paypal for in the past like...3 months? At least? Is to buy some station cash on my everquest account. Maybe that's risky behavior, right there. :P Thus I can only assume that it's a general thing and they are doing it to as many people as they think they can get away with (or everyone, who knows). Anyone else get this recently? Maybe they are "gearing up for the holidays" or something?

I got the same email a couple weeks ago, I thought maybe it was because I've recently gotten and sent a couple 'gift' payments for things I've sold/bought here. I hate paypal, but it's so convenient and is the 'standard' online payment, so to speak, so I just deal with it for the most part.

Whoops. Sounds like somebody composed the SQL query without taking into consideration all the permutations and combinations. It makes me wonder how they're doing with their other database stuff.

I don't see any evidence of a scam unless there was a link for the receiver to click in order to inquire or protest and it was to a website in the Ukraine, Nigeria, Russia, or Taiwan.

I've gotten that recently as well. I consider it to hopefully be one more nail in the future coffin of PayPal.

Sorry to potentially derail this but I had to laugh when I saw that you were spending on EQ. I figured they were still around but since I'm drawing near my 10 year "kicked the habit" anniversary I hadn't really thought about it much...

My last eBay sale, they did this to me... Totally ticked me off... Even after the buyer got the lens and left positive feedback, they still had a hold on the money.... I didn't get the money until I called them and complained...

I used to love using PayPal... But not anymore... I'd say that the market is probably sufficiently ticked off enough to open the doors for another company willing to come in and fill paypal's shoes.... The whole point of selling online is lost the moment that accepting a check would be faster...

It gets even more ridiculous. I received the same notice a few weeks ago and on Monday I received another message from Pay Pal indicating funds would no longer be held for 21-days and would be available immediately. I dislike Pay Pal.

In the exact same situation they told me - Buyer has left feedback too early  and may be he/she hasn't tested item properly  Finally money was relased 3 days later and that was one of the things eventually made me stop using paypal.

I did a money order for my last sale and it was awesome. Got the money into my hands faster than paypal anyway (2 day snail mail and then instantly at bank as I deposit, vs instantly at Paypal and 3-5 days to hit bank electronically). Plus the fees are $1-2 instead of 3%

People use paypal because they say it will "protect" them. Countless times I have seen people get ripped off I have eliminated paypal from my forms of payment and have never had a problem since. :-)

Paypal DOESNT protect you as a buyer or seller. I have been screwed by both...

Haha, EQ2 actually, sorry, :) Yeah haven't played the original in like.. 10 years ? Literally! Lol. I guess it is still around, though. Pretty crazy...

Funny that other people have gotten it for no reason, too, lol. Gotta love (not) Paypal. Yeah I think for things I sell on here next, I will specify check or money order, and stop accepting paypal unless the person has a long posting history, as it's just gotten to be too much of a pain. I used to do a ton of ebaying in 99/2000/2001, and we did check and money order payments and it worked just fine. I haven't looked into amazon, yet. I haven't had anyhting to sell in a while, though.
