and sorry for the low-quality shot. ISO 1250 and barely 1/125 on the shutter. Dismal to say the least. This guy went from tree to fence to deck. Later today, I saw him standing on the large hook that holds one of the feeders. Glad he knows where 'lunch' hangs out. Maybe some better shots on a better day.

Cooper's through double-paned deck doors with a 135L which was what was on the camera when he showed up for a shoot:

thanks BG. Guess we get what we can sometimes! The hawk should become a regular if he was that close to the feeders. Need longer lens than what I currently have now, that's for sure.

nice.

Thanks! Think this guy might be a youngster. He swoops in but doesn't really know the drill yet. Last fall/winter we had a veteran sharp shinned who'd swoop in between the houses, scatter the birds from the feeders and sometimes catch one in its talons and fly off.

Very nice shot in the circumstances, Dave! Say goodbye to a lot of your smaller birds. A hawk has decimated my feeder activity here.

Thanks K and WR. Each winter, the local hawks leave evidence of a dove or two, a woodpecker or otherwise on the ground in feathers. The small guys keep coming though. Circle of life, I guess.

Thank you Levina. And yeah, come downstairs, look out the window and find a hawk sitting on the fence rail? Not an everyday occurrence, but exciting and glad to get a picture.

Quite a surprise I am sure, nice capture Dave... "feeding birds" in more ways than one...... I am guessing you will see this youngster again.

Hope so, db. I see the smaller guys around here like the Cooper's or a Sharpie now and then. Don't see the redtails at all. Hopefully, this guy will become a fixture this year.

the hawks definitely practice 'stealth' tactics when in the area. Sometimes, I'll look out in the trees out back, see nothing, then one will take off. Never saw him!

Nice photo considering the double paned glass. Every time I try it through ours I get a slight double image.
