"Downgrade" from T1i/T2i?

Hanging out around the forum and learning more about DSLRs I'm very much envious of you guys with the xxD and xD cameras. I like the fast AF, lower noise (with new models), weather proofing, ergonomics, and magnesium body. However, will I be going back in technology/IQ? Will I miss the nice, big screen of the T1i/T2i?

I would be essentially exchanging my T1i or T2i for something so it would need to be an older model like a 40D/50D or maybe an older 1D (probably way overkill).

Thanks!

im not sure i get what your saying. But in my opinion I would rather have a 40D than a t2i. Unless I was into shooting video with DSLR. The 50D is a beast.

T2i is a very good camera. Ergonomics is largely a function of body size, so if the T2i is too small for your hands, that might be an issue. Magnesium body is entirely irrelevant. I have a 60D, and it is extremely well built with no magnesium. What is your goal in swapping for an older model?

In a previous era, cameras were judged by the pictures they could create, such as these images that came from a Canon T2i.

There was no trouble with the T2i's noise levels, weather proofing, ergonomics, or plastic body. When the camera was set correctly, pointed in the right direction and the shutter button pressed at the best time, useful pictures came out. By the standards of creating pictures from a camera that sold for a price that let the buyer keep much of his money in his pocket, the T2i was worth buying.

When i went from 20D straight to 60D (mainly for the video mode), i immediately missed the button layout and the joystick at the back of the camera. The large LCD and liveview couldn't make up for what i missed. Oh, and the grip too, just couldn't convince myself to live with the 60D. Hence i sold the 60D and got the 7D. But that's me though.

From what I see it looks really nice but some people say the noise levels are higher with the 50D compared to the T2i?

Basically wondering if I should keep the T2i or get an older, more professional model.

Honestly I'm really paranoid about my stuff and I think I might feel more comfortable with a metal body and a little more weather proofing. The T2i is also really small in my hands which I'm hoping may be resolved with a bigger camera.

I shoot cars, people, events for my school's newpapers, basically everything lol

See above.

Ya, probably... That is part of the reason I made a post. I don't want to waste money trading stuff around just because the grass seems greener on the other side.

Trust me, I know I am barely scraping 1% of the camera's potential. I'm more concerned with durability and ergonomics at this point without losing features/IQ/noise.

That's what I'm wondering about. The T2i is nice and seems like an amazing camera for the price, but I like some things from the xxD and xD lines as well...

Thanks everyone!

I really love the whole Magnesium vs the Polycarbonite over Aluminium discussion, and how the Magnesium is such a superior product over the hi-tech plastics; but I guess that is why all professional athletes, and Soldiers wear "metal" helmets.

Oh wait; they don't.

I'm quite rational most of the time when it comes spending on big item, at least i thought so :). When i had the 60D, I hardly pick it up and shot randomly but i noticed things changed after i got "the camera" that i truly wanted. Now I would simply point it and shoot, enjoying the sound of it. I have a hard time believing what i am about the say: listen to your heart.

I'm one of those people. :D

In any case, I much preferred the weight of a 30D comapred to the same-year Rebels, and did not like the hand-feel of the 60D. Also, the controls and ease of use are a big issue for myself. So, in essence, most people went with camera features AND what feels good in-hand both ergonomics and feature-wise.

OP, is it possible for you to rent an xxD body? If so, do it and see if you like the layout. I can't live without that layout, which immediately put the 60D body out of my short list. :D

Do they make a lot of buildings out of polycarbonate? Or how about automobile frames? Or heavy duty equipment? You can't really argue that plastic is sturdier than metal. Is it enough for a camera, yes. I love the feel of my 40D, hated the rebels, 60D was just ok. The 1D felt the best by far.

The only problem I see in this whole situation is you finding someone who is going to be willing to trade their 50D for a T1i/T21. The 40D might be possible as they are going for around 500cl near my parts. The 50D however is still an insanely amazing camera and still going for loads higher than the T*i bodies. Just look around amazon at the 50D those things are still insanely priced and for good reason. If you feel you need to up/down grade then by all means it's a situation that really requires a personal opinion because if you listen to everyone here you may hate yourself for deciding in their favor.
