So far I have taken 130 pics and 10 videos of about a minute or two each. That has taken up two full charges to the point that the camera shuts itself down. I have an old SD-750 and a newer 300HS and those seem to last forever on one charge in comparison. I know its not in quite the same class but still... Anyone else with an S100 having the same problem?

How do you have the GPS configured? Just having it on makes my SX230 have shorter battery life than my SD990 with the same battery. And if you set it to continuously record your position it'll only last a few hours, even with the camera turned off.

I have it set up to track shots not constant. If thats what's killing it so quick I consider the GPS a useless feature...

I've taken about half as many shots, no videos, 2 uploads to my laptop, and a lot of fiddling in the menus and I'm still at 2/3 charge from the first full charge of the battery. I have the GPS off as I would only turn it on for vaca or travel pics.

I suspect GPS and/or video is going to be the culprit.

It seems to have a good charge until shooting video. That seems to kill it after a couple minutes.

S100 takes the NB-5L, same as what my SD700IS takes. The S90/95 takes the NB-6L, I don't know any of the technical stuff but I guess the "older" battery was better? Not super impressed with the battery life on my SD700IS but I guess any P&S has crappy battery life compared to a DSLR. Go to sterlingtek.com and buy some more batteries I guess...

Well, my SD990 and SX230 take the same NB5L battery the S100 does. The SD990 seems to do better than the SX230 for battery life.

more features and large high res screens dont help. When I still had my S95, i found that i can easily take about 250-270 photos when i dialed down the brightness and shot only in RAW. Raw is just a data dump so the camera doesnt need to use extra energy to compress to jpg. Also try to turn off alot of the AF and IS features. I think newer Canons will continuously AF and IS. You can change the AF and IS to only activate when shooting instead of having it on all the time.

I found GPS is what is killing it. If you turn that off it will last much much longer! I'll only use GPS if I am traveling somewhere and really want that feature. Its a nice feature to have but I am glad we can turn it off.

not s100 but i carry 3 batteries for the s95 and depending if more than a days shooting i take the charger too, considering getting a car charger also - looks like all the newer camera with small batteries eat them quickly

It's nice to know the S100 takes the same battery as my 2 SD9** cameras, good selling point for me, I think I would turn off the GPS

I did change a couple of settings including turning off the gps. The battery is doing much better now. It does bother me tho. I wanted to keep gps on for all pics not just vacation pics. I figure it this way, If my 5 month old daughter is looking at these pics when she's 50 and I'm not around any more it would be cool for her to know exactly where they were taken.

Just a quick reminder, be careful where you post pictures that have GPS coordinates especially pictures of children. These GPS pictures can tell others exactly where you live, which room of the house the child sleeps in, which day care she goes to ... if you get my drift

Sounds like someone is a little paranoid, eh ? Might want to switch to decaf:cool:. While it may be true, I haven't read about any rash of kidnappings where the kidnapper used info from a picture's exif data to track the kid. Pretty sure that if they wanted to track the kid, they'd do it the old fashioned way- you know- stake out, follow, make notes, etc. :) Lighten up.

Now, if you are in the witness protection program, does that mean you need to avoid being in any kind of photo ?
