So after many years of use without a hitch, my 70-200 f/4 IS unexpectedly rolled off a table about 3 feet off the floor, landed on it's hood (luckily), bounced off to the side and ended up without so much as a scratch. Yay! oh... :(

Well, no all's not ok as now there is a rattling sound coming from the lens if I shake it, and it gives me a triple beep when I mount it to the camera, so there is most certainly a problem with either the focusing or IS assembly as the sound is coming from the rear of the lens.

Time to send it in for repairs. Drats. Probably the first piece of hardware I've ever owned fail on me.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Ouch, sorry to hear. I never used the tripod collar on my f/4, but this is definitely a good reason to!

It was normally on a shelf I use to hold photography gear, but this time someone done away with the guard rail on the front edge and I didn't notice. Only me to blame.
On the other hand it makes me think about possibly replacing it with something else, as the zoom range did come in handy at times, but I don't use it as much as I've used to. I'll probably get it fixed up good as new and think about trading it in for something more suitable to my work nowadays, like a Zeiss 100mm makro.
