My Nissin Di622 Mark II accepts wireless signal from the 60D and fires reliably. However, it only happens when the camera internal flash opens and fires. If the internal flash is down, the Nissin stays off.

I checked the setting for the external flash. If the Nissin is mounted on the camera, I can make changes. If the Nissin is off the camera, the camera menu says that no external flash is available.

I had the same result with the Canon 450D (XSi). Is it a normal behavior, or is it the flash fault? If the latter, I will be disappointed, as I do not want the built-in flash to work.

It's my understanding that the "wireless" is really optical. Meaning the 60D in-camera popup flash has to be up in order to trigger a slave. I think there is an option to trigger a slave flash from the wireless feature of the 60D but the popup will NOT fire BUT it has to be up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this is how i do it.

The pop-up flash will still fire, but it can be set up in the menu so that it contributes almost nothing to the light in the photo.

In most situations you will not see it in the photo, but if you shoot into a mirror or some other highly reflective surface, you will see the light from the pop-up flash.

This is such a common question. I cannot believe that so many cameras were shipped without operator manuals.

It's available for download at the canon site, OR we could all rely on POTN to answer our questions. It's a win-win-win; for canon (bringing more traffic to their site), for POTN bringing and keeping more members in the forum, another win would be the lack of product waste in ink and paper.

Thanks, I somehow assumed that "wireless" meant radio.

Thanks Mike. Somehow I missed it in the manual. My main concern was that the onboard flash creates shadow off the lens.
