No flash was needed or used. With the combination of a Canon 60D and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, there was plenty of light available to generate these images without a flash.

Some moving around was needed to get the images. The track is one of the few dirt ovals where you can place yourself on the outside of the turns without being pelted with mud, so the outside location was the first place to take pictures. Then, the second location was inside of the third turn, where the riders start to put their inside foot down and crank the motorcycles sideways. Those two locations are the places where the most dynamic images can be found.

Very cool shots. The first one is a classic speedway bike but the others look to be more of a motocross bike set up for flat track. Did they have 2 classes or did they run them together? If so that would be interesting to watch since speedway bikes have no brakes.

Good work!

Excellent shots DC, as usual. Amazingly sharp. Were these shot wide open at 2.8? I just ordered a 60D and your consistently great shots factored into my decision. Good work!

Wow nice work. I've been wondering if a slower lens at say 5.6 will be able to work at a night speedway event? I'd obviously love a 2.8 constant but just starting out....
