After being inspired by some marco shot, I went in my backyard to shoot some insects ( heres a link to that thread:Insects). I was quickly distracted by a humming bird that flew by. I decided that I wanted to get a great humming bird shot. The Humming birds were very difficult to shoot because they would hover around a flower for no more than a couple of seconds and then they would fly off.

While I was attempting to get my humming bird shot, I realized my backyard is full of all different kinds of birds. While waiting for the humming birds, I took shots of the other birds and really had a fun time doing so. The first day of my conquest ended, but I was excited to have a new photography goal. In the end it took me five days to get my humming bird shot.

For a day to day account of the shoot, please readmy blog entry: 5 Day Backyard Conquest (external link)

4. I was turing the corner of my house when this hawk was flying by, It caught me by such a surprise that I only had time to stick my cam out with one hand and "spray and pray"

Congrats on your quest, though small, you got nice detail. I must warn you though, if you keep with shooting birds instead of or in addition to the bugs our birds like to eat, you must get ready for NLG Syndrome, (Need Longer Glass). There is no cure. It is loads of fun and much faster movement than bugs, (ok,insects), Good Luck, lets see some more.

well done on getting your shot. Amazing what we see in our backyards when we take time to look.

Thanks for the compliments. Unfortunately I had NLG right after I took my first shot of the humming bird. Pretty much all of those shots were heavily cropped.

These little dudes are really frustrating. They are fast, agile, and you can wait hours without seeing one. Then when you least expect it, you hear this 'whirrrrrrr' behind your head and there he is, looking at you from a distance that is too short for you to get a shot.

Tell me about it..... One of the days the humming bird stayed in the tree forever just chirping and moving his head back and forth. I went and got my ladder to get closer to him but by the time I got there it flew away
Heres that shot
