My brother just brought up the idea of doing a time-lapse of the Halloween trick-or-treaters. I have an intervalometer that I haven't tried yet and will spend the next thirty minutes setting up my camera and figuring out what settings to use.

Any tips? Is this going to work or will the periods in between trick or treater's be too long to allow this to work?

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

probably its going to get darker and darker too there will be "Auto" settings i imagine, to self adjust to the conditions. would it not just save a lot of hassle and memory to just turn it on when you see a bunch of ghouls heading towards the house, and turn it off when they leave (then repeat process)?

Depends on the flow of traffic, the amount of light you have and the time period you're going to shoot for.

If, the lighting is okay and consistent, you can probably shoot 1 frame a minute, 60 frames an hour would get you about 10 sec of video after 4 hours. Of course, you can shoot 2 frames a minute and double that.

I think both of you guys are on the right track. I can hover outside and do about ten frames a minute but turn it off when there's nobody coming down the street.

Usually, people stay at our door longer when we have drinks for the parents!

Well, the sun's not even down yet and I can't get a decent exposure so I think I'll wait 'till next year when I can rig up some lighting.

Edit: Our street sucks. It's 7:00 and we've only had eight people come by.

That's 8 more than I got. I live in rural area and it's about a quarter mile to the nearest neighbor. The nearest house I know that has a child is about 2 miles away. Long walk, no street light, etc makes for poor trick or treating. Most of the kids in my area usually travel to nearby village anyway.

We usually get a pretty good crowd, but 8 was the total for the night. We live on a dead-end and if kids can't see any action from the main street, they just don't bother. Just one street over it was busy and my brother, who lives just a few blocks away, got over 500 trick or treaters! (They have an unfair advantage though because they live across the street from houses with boat slips, a few of which pull out all the stops. One of his neighbors was giving out movie-sized Kit Kat bars. We just can't compete with that!)

Thanks for the ideas but I'm glad I didn't go to any trouble.
