What I do sometimes is go out with my 7D, set it to High Speed Continuous, and start shooting anything and everything. I would hope after a few times of that, including formatting and reformatting, is a good first-step.

I don't know much about SD cards, but the pro cards wouldn't be slower than the normal ones. Class 10 is 10MB/sec isn't it? I'd have thought that was more than enough.
