Hi all - ;)

I am considering this: Manfrotto MKC-H01
- compact 4-section tripod
- non-slip rubber feet
- hybrid ball-head
- quick-release plate
---------------
- max supported weight is: 1.5kg
- max height is: 154cm
- tripod weight is: 1.15kg
- GBP 50.00 - Argos Retail

I am looking at getting a 'throw-away' el-cheapo tripod for a 1-off fireworks display shoot here in London-UK for guy-fawkes night on Saturday 5th Nov.

I will be taking limited gear:
1 x 40D
1 x 10-22mm EF-S
1 x 50mm 1.8 EF
1 x RS 80N3 cable-release

So, to support the 40D with my w/angle lens should not pose a problem.
My criteria is that the tripod must be light-weight, compact and easy to use.

Two Questions for you all:
1.> Anyone currently using this for 'light' use successfully ?
2.> Is there an alternative that is better based upon price/weight/ease-of-use ?

Thanks in advance....

I have this tripod and it works pretty well. I initially picked this up because it was lightweight and portable. It holds up well with the lenses you have. I have the same ones too. If you're just looking for a really cheap, lightweight tripod then this one is a pretty good choice.

Hey thanks 'HiRoller',

Cool, I feel very re-assured to 'bite-the-bullet' and run with this. ;)
I'll buy this later today.

For a throw away tripod, 50 quid is a lot... Just buy some cheap 10 pound tripod from a store or online if you're going to throw it away.

:D

You're right! -

Although, I still need something steady that is guaranteed to work that I can get a hold of pretty quickly as Saturday quickly approaches.

I suppose the sensible thing to do after this session is to either 'gift' it to someone or (and I am not keen on deception) is to return this product to the store stating that it is somehow unsuitable.

I am forever traveling around and I have purchased and left tripods in:
Miami, Quito, Bangalore, Dubai and soon here in the UK! - i know....

Why not just buy a small travel tripod?

buying it with the intention of using it then returning it to the store to me seems a bit fraudulent...

Totally agree with the above 2nd statement: ^^
I already stated that I am not keen on deception, so it is something that I will not do.

As for buying a dedicated travel tripod - yes - this is an option, but I carry so much gadgetry with me when traveling around that the tripod gets in the way and adds unwanted weight. Hence, I resort to this 'buy, use and dispose' approach. I know that even being wasteful is a sin!!

BTW: went out and bought it! - great packaging!

For the future, have you looked at mini tripods? I also don't like carrying around a full sized tripod with me, even the travel sized ones, so I've got a mini tripod that's about the same size as a mid-sized zoom lens, which fits perfectly in my bag and therefore doesn't clutter up my luggage :)

Curiosity is now aroused - thank you.....

Do you have any examples of either sites/images that I can look at?

NB:
I already have 2 x micro-pods to mount either side of my Macro flashgun MT24-EX and U have 1 x GorillaPod lurking around somewhere in a suitcase....

Ok :)

Finally managed to edit the original file to conform to the 150kb limit using a software application called PhotoScape - that, incidentally, I have never used before!!

So apologies in advance for the poor editing work!

BTW:
I should have read your signature earlier - the Velbon seems quite impressive.

Looks like a decent little 'pod, what are you going to do with it after the fireworks?
