Hey guys,

I consider myself more a landscape/street photographer and currently here are my lenses

EF 24-105 f4L IS
EF 17-40 f4L
Sigma 50 1.4
Canon 50 1.8

and I have a 5Dc and a 40D.

Out on the streets I use my 5Dc + sigma 50 1.4 99% of the time but I'm thinking of bringing my 17-40 for some WA shots now too.

I'm craving for a new street lens, something lighter than the 50 1.4, wider so I've been thinking on getting a EF 35mm f2 for a little while now.

Do you guys think I should go for it?

already have a 17-40 and have no interest going wider as of yet.

sorry I forgot to clarify that I'm mainly thinking on retiring the 50 f1.4 and replacing it with the 35 f2 but what I'm worried about too is if I did end up buying the 35 f2 it would be pointless for me to have 2 50s and potentially selling the 50 1.4

35mm on the 40D would be similar to the 50mm on the 5D...i think it makes way more sense to sell the 50mm f1.8 and add another 150 or so to get the 35mm...it's a cheap little lens, and if you like the length you can start saving for the L i guess

edit: looking at your last post, i wouldn't get rid of the 1.4 for it...you don't find it pointless to have two 50mm's right now?

How about a 24L ii instead of the 35

may allow you more creative options

Not a bad option given that he could toss it on his 40D if he wanted a 35mm-ish FL, but I'm guessing by his post that it may be out of his price range.

It depends upon you! In the days of 135 format film SLRs and rangefinder cameras, many widely respected photojournalists preferred to have 35mm lens mounted on their cameras for everyday shooting, not liking the 50mm lens.

used to own the 24 2.8 back when I was still learning with a Rebel XT and 40D to experience 35mm photography and actually managed to take great shots in Hawaii with just this lens, kinda regret selling it now.

thanks, maybe I'll rent a 35 1.4L and see how I feel about it. If I decide to go for a 35 I will sell my Sigma 50 1.4
