viewing S95 Raw files with irfanview....a question or two

a great thing that i like about irfanview is you can view raw files (embedded jpeg) and easily convert them to jpeg. for quick stuff like e-mails and ebay this is great.

i usually preview my files in irfanview before i save them to the hard drive but today i ran into a snag.

i got my s95 today and irfanview displays its 12mb raw files as thumbnails and if i save the raw file as a jpeg i still have a thumbnail. am i doing something wrong or what's the deal with irfanview? i've never had a problem viewing any raw file from any camera i've owned with irfanview until now.

also, is there another free program that i can use instead of irfanview to view raw files?

Not sure what size the S95's embedded JPEGs are. But since Irfanview relies on Canon's codecs for viewing RAW, have you installed the latest ones?

that's a good suggestio,n Jon. the last time i loaded irfanview was about a year ago when i got my new computer. i'll reinstall the program and if necessary e-mail irfan who is very helpful.

i reloaded irfanview along with the newest plug-ins and problem is solved. i am back in business!
