I thought a couple of the improvements that the 10D had over the D60 were improved focus speed/accuracy and lower noise. If you are asking if it is worth it to upgrade from a D60 to a 10D, I would say no. I think the 20D would be a more logical upgrade. But hey, thats just my opinion.

I had a D60 and didn't think that the 10D offered enough improvements to warrant the upgrade. I did upgrade to the 20D because of features like almost instant on, better autofocus and better construction. Also, the 20D (not the 10D) can use EF-S lenses so I could get a 10-22 EF-S lens to answer my wide angle problems.

I have a 10D and I'm waiting for whatever replaces the 20D to upgrade to.. I think you "get your money's worth" by using a camera for two generations.. Of course, if you've got the money, then you can just replace your camera every time a new model comes out :)

I've used both, and the 10D is a far improvement. It just functions better.

But if you can get the 20D, that would be a sufficient difference.

Perfect thread... so I am looking to buy a second camera... I am currently using a D350...but was told that the 10D would be a good route to go for a second camera... since the D60 seems to be less expensive then the 10D would either or both be good second cameras to carry? What are things to look out for with each? I Have shot 35mm for a LONG time... but my recent gift of the D350 really made me get bitten by the bug.. any help would be great!!!

i love my d60 to death, it was my first and only digital body, but the autofocus is terrible! i dont know if it's just my body, but it sometimes takes a good 1-1 1/2 minutes to focus in low lighting. i'm also just using a 50mm1.8 right now, so i dont know if better lenses will focus quicker, but i would deff. get a 10d over the d60 and/or wait for a 20d. i know i'm waiting a couple years until the 20d is down to the $700 used price point to get one, but eventually it's worth upgrading i believe, if only for the slow, slow autofocus.

I still have both.
unless you are getting the 10D as a second camera, I would stick with D60 until you can afford a noticeable upgrade like to at least to 20D.

Reason: I actually liked the pictures from my D60 better. I think this is because of slightly different sensor. If I remember right, although both were produced by Canon, the D60 sensor was produced at a different fabrication facility then the 10D's which was when they moved the fab to Japan for better control.

However that said, the 10D's autofocus is way better and so I tend to get overall more good shots with it.

So if you are already getting enough good shots, then stick with what you have for now.
I got the 10D because I needed a second DSLR as backup and it was the best choice at the time.

I will say though if you can swap 1-for-1 then the 10D is overall better, just not enough to spend more then a few dollars on if oyu already have D60.

Just my opinion,

Autofocus of D60 is slow in low light -- not just your body. (But the autofocus is accurate, if it can do so.) Better glass helps a little bit but it's still a problem. To solve it, you may attach an external Canon EX flash. It's red beam will help the autofocus a lot (within certain effective range). You may also choose no flash in your shots.

Back to the topics, I'm with the others. 10D is not worth an upgrade from D60. 20D is another story.
