My 60D has pretty much lived with me as I commute back and forth to work; yesterday was an exception as we recently got back from spending a (4) day weekend in Yosemite.

As I was driving home from work, a very large nasty storm was moving through the valley ahead of me; from behind at the critical golden hour the heavens parted laminating the most magnificent rainbow directly in my path that I have ever seen due to the stark contrast of the dark clouds.
All I could do is sit and drive in disgust at myself for not packing my camera; sure, I still got to witness the raw beauty of nature in its finest, but have no proof of it ever happening.

Oh it happened: Drivers making the rush hour drive home at the end of the work day were treated to a rainbow over Sacramento, Calif., Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011.

Sadly I can only post a link to the photograph #19/30 since it was some other lucky bugger that actually remembered to carry their camera.

Those things always happen to me while I'm on the Interstate, with nowhere to pull over. I know the feeling, though :)

Reminds me of this one time, before I was into photography, that I was driving and really wished I had a camera.

I was driving out of the mountains in colorado and it was sunny and blue skis, till I got down to this one point. Thick clouds surrounded mountain peaks and it looked like little islands sticking out. Quite an awesome sight. What was most striking was the sharp line between cloud and clear sky.

I am currently trying to figure out if the G12 can handle the task for the times when I don't have a "real" camera with me.

Nothing bad about the G12, but I have had a couple of fights with it for lack of a real wide-angle. I will give it the rest of the year and see if I still feel the same.

Had the same thing happen but luckily I still had the trusty lumix in the glove box. Had to stitch together 3 frames to get it.

This is why a small P&S camera is a much better idea than lugging a $1000 kit (60D + whatever lens) to and from work everyday. A P&S can be in a car compartment or in a pocket of your personal bag.

Well, good point -- I packed pocket-size P&S cameras with me all the time for a long time, even if I had my DSLR gear with me, until in time they all died out, malfunctioned, or whatever!

Now, I'm done spending money on camera gear. Unfotunately, this week I had to replace my monitor that died, no choice about that, but as for camera stuff, I'm done:)!
