I ended up putting my 60D and favorite lenses in a Pelican case in the trunk of the car, so I don't leave home without them

That's where a good P&S camera with a decent focal range in your to and from work bag or from seat compartment that can be reached while sitting in your driver's seat is a better idea. I also don't know if I"d want my dSLR and best lens in my trunk all the time bouncing around. And what happens if you want to use your 60D at home? You'd have to go out to your car to get it. And if you take it in and out of your car every night, that's another thing to potentially forget to put in your car or take out of your car, etc.

Now, I'm done spending money on camera gear. Unfotunately, this week I had to replace my monitor that died, no choice about that, but as for camera stuff, I'm done !ahh, famous last words...

CameraMan Cream of the Crop More info | Nov 06, 2011 10:21 | #19 I never think to bring my Canon SD1200 IS. I should just throw it in the glove box and leave it there. I've had many occasions where there had been some cool cloud cover that I can capture while driving. Photographer

I wouldn't want to shoot and drive at the same time anyways. I wonder if that is illegal in NY yet.... 1DX, Gripped 60D,10-22mm, 18-135mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, 24-70L, TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, 100mm f2.8 Macro, 50mm f/1.4, 60mm 2/2.8 Macro, 580ex, 430EXII, Pocketwizards, Softbox, Tamron 1.4X TC, Canon 2x TC, GT3541LS, BH-55

I wonder if that is illegal in NY yet.... I said nothing about photographing while driving, did I? The few seconds you'd save by grabbing your P&S while in your driver's seat and shooting through an open window may get the shot compared to opening your door and trunk, and pellican case, lens cap off. And depending where you are you may not have enough room to get off the road to a safe place to park your car (not even getting off the pavement).

tonylong ...winded More info | Nov 07, 2011 17:23 | #22 You know, it doesn't have to be either in the trunk or a P&S/compact digicam! I've gone with both quite happily! I've had plenty of times where the compact gave me the ability to get some quick "big picture" shots, and then would benefit, it was back to the car to "kit up"! Tony
