After wading through the myriad of camera bags that might suit my needs, I think the Crumpler 5MDH will serve me best. Provided, that is, the following will fit:

Canon 400D w/ Sigma 17-70 attached
Canon EF 70-300 IS USM
Yongnuo YN468 Speedlite.

Could someone please help me here? Thank you kindly.

A 6MDH may be better for that gear. It might fit in a 5MDH, but it will be quite tight if it does.
My 6MDH is quite a tight fit for my 17-70 mounted, my 70-200 with hood reversed, and my 430EXII. The 70-300 is smaller than the 70-200 though, so it might be ok in a 5MDH, but I'd play it safe. Besides, its always nice to have a little extra space for other stuff like a rocket blower or a mars bar.

I guess it also depends on what lens / acc you plan to get in the future ? I think the 6 million dollar might be a better fit ;)

I appreciate the idea of hedging on the side of going a bit larger (i.e. the 6MDH). But I feel comfortable that my travel gear assortment is not likely to change soon. Thus, for me, smaller is better.

But I want to be sure that the gear that I listed in my original post will indeed fit in the 5MDH.

Thanks.

Check my reviews. Had a 40D, 18-50F2.8 attached, 70-200, and 430EX.

Heck I had a 40D and 20D with lens attached.

I did check your review. Thanks. So tell me if I'm correct. It seems like the 400D w/ Sigma 17-70 lens attached along with the Canon EF 70-300 IS USM & Speedlite flash will fit (w/ or w/o the hoods?).

i used to have the 5MDH with a canon 7D with tamron 17-70 attached, it fitted just fine in the 5DMH

as the 400d is smaller, it will be perfect

here's what i put in the bag:
7D + 17-70
70-200 f4 non-IS
430EX flash
+ power cord + card reader + filters + extra batteries + CF cards

Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 24-70 2.8L, Canon 70-200 4L IS, Canon 17-40 4L, flash Canon 430EX II

The space in the 5MDH is maxed out if you were to fit all the gears as mentioned. But, in the future, you may want to throw in more stuffs like magazines, water bottles, spare batts etc... then you may want to consider a 7MDH directly. More space is better than no space.

^Um, I packed mine just fine and water bottles and magazines are not exactly what those bags are intended for. Besides, you can always hang a bottle on the side and what tiny mags were you putting in there?

Plus you jumped up 2 sizes!
