I found a local person via Craig's List looking to sell his 1D MkI. I called and we chatted for a little bit, and we made plans to meet so that I can see the camera body and maybe take a couple of shots.

Boy the 1D is a super machine when compared to the 10D. The 1st thing I noticed, the viewfinder is really bright compared to the 10D. And it focuses so much quicker. It impressed me with it's fps at LOW... once I set it to high, OMG!!! It's a machine gun!!! It's 4MP, and I'm still a little aprehensive about that, but as far as everything else goes, I think the 1D will outshoot my 10D.

The seller and I squabbled over the price, and we're both sleeping on it for now... but hopefully he'll sell it to me. For all of those with 1 series cameras... I can see why you love using them so much. My 10D is still a good camera to me, but after playing with the 1D, I can see that there is so much more to be had out there.

How large a print are you typically making? I think that will help make your decision. That would ne too low for me.

Do it!!!! I have a 4 mp camera now and an 8 mp camera, I reach for the 4 mp camera first. I think I could get a pretty good 20X30 inch print out of the 1D if I felt so inclined. The ISO noise is nothing to be thrilled about but there are lots of ways to deal with the grain in post processing, in good light this camera is king.

I'm taking pictures of everything, so go ahead and take this place away from me.

That is another very good question... I wouldn't think it could be worse than the 10D. The 10d is WAY grainy at ISO3200.

Yeah... I'll be lucky to see myself making a print that's 20x30in. The largest I've made thus far is 8X10in. I'm choosing to go with the 1D mkI due to price and features. A used 1d MkII is still way out of my range. After testing the 1D to see if it's what I want, I know that I will have to learn all over again. The 1D is set-up so differently from the 10D in that the way you set it up and select menu functions. I'm pretty excited... I just hope the seller will accept the amount I'm willing to buy it for.

BTW... has anybody thrown a Tokina 12-24 f4 on a 1D before??? How bad is the vignetting at the wide end??? I forgot to bring my Tokina to try it out.

Here's a full frame image from my 1D (which is an excellent back-up camera):

I haven't put my Tokina on my 1D but I've read on a few forums that you can go down to 15mm before it vignettes. As for learning the controls I wouldn't worry about it, its pretty intuitive although you need to use 2 hands to change the settings. I figured everything out without opening the manual.

Best of Luck on geting the 1D. 1D better than a 10D...OH YEAH. Dont be apprehensive about this. This is a great camera for so many reasons. Most of which have you looking at a pro body to begin with.

Please keep us updated on how this turns out. I'm pulling for ya!
