Just bought a new copy of PE 8. When the screen first came up I broke out in a cold sweat. Wow, what a learning curve coming up. Does anyone know where I could get/view video tutorials on this and/or a good easy to understand book on this software? Thanks!

But I should really say that going through the Help documentation of any product (or manual) gives me a much greater understanding than any video tutorial. The key is to never go past a word or section without fully understanding it. Most people just want to get through it as fast as possible, but this is counter-productive.

The videos (have not viewed yet) are a help but I agree with you as far as never going past a word and is why I feel an aftermarket book on Elements may be more beneficial. I will view the videos when I get time. I need to start with the very basics and learn what all those tools are used for. Some type of "getting started" information is my first goal. I thank you for posting the links.

James,

agree it can be daunting in the beginning. Figure out what you think you need to do to your images, then do searches on things like 'how to sharpen an image in PSE' and you'll find specific tutorials and help.

PSE is really a great tool that has lots of valuable features that are easy to use after you become familiar with where things are and what they do.

Thanks Dave, that's the learning curve, knowing where things are and how to use them. I already figured out how to make a sky bluer but even after I click save, those dotted lines are still there. So........time to read/learn.

James,

You are most welcome. I should have mentioned http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/ (external link) is a paid membership but well worth the money. They have hundreds of video tuts dating back to Elements version 3 but don't let those older tuts bother you. Many of them are still usable today. There are also many written tutorials at this site.

At elementsvillage the people there are very friendly and helpful. They will help you with any problems you have with elements, and many people there also use full photoshop.

Both sites are linked together.

James, Scott Kelby authors an Elements "primer" book, if I recall. You should be able to find the version for PE8 at Amazon.

Seems to have very good reviews.

That looks right! It's been a few years since I grabbed an earlier version, but both the authors are good in their own way!
