......I'm thinking about going up to Lake Helene on Sunday to put my new 5DII through its' paces. :D

I have not been up that way. Looking at Protrails it looks like I need to put it on our list. Congrats on the new body! :)

Very nice series....however the shots feel oversharpend a bit.

Sunman, you may be correct, especially as I review the last couple. I generally process for large printing and when they shrink down for posting it sometimes increases the sharpening and contrast a bit over the large version. Thanks for pointing it out.

Great series! Looks like I need to add that to my list! I'm trying my luck this weekend down at the dunes...who knows what I'll find there.

I hear you might find some sand...:D (I need to back to the dunes myself, it's been a couple years)

I hope so! If not, this trip might be kind of a bust! :D

Lovely series Jon.. Can i ask what your exif is for the 1st shot? I love how you've managed to get the foreground lit without the stars moving!

All very nice, nice enough that I can't pick a favorite :) I think it would be 4 or 5 however. Number 1, that's a very nice exposure, I take it you were either hiking all night or it is a very short hike to the lake.

Excellent work Jon!!

Julian, there are many on this forum who are a better photog than I, but a select few who's style I wish to emulate. Thanks for the compliment on the shots. It means a lot coming from you.

Thanks Scott. The first shot is an exposure blend of two shots. The EXIF data is: 16mm, f/2.8, ISO 800, and 20 & 70 seconds each.

Thanks John. Since the end of the summer a friend and I have been going on these early morning hikes, leaving the trail head between 3 & 6 AM depending on where we are trying to catch sunrise, how far it is to get there and what time sunrise occurs. Lately we've been leaving with enough time to get there before sunrise to catch some of these star shots first.

Love #1. The stars are clear as are the mountains and foreground.

Your welcome. :) It goes both ways Jon. ;) When I see images like this, it inspires me too. Your nailed the comp and exposures. Be proud of them.
